Bio:
Angela, a Deaf native signer, is an internationally renowned performer and comedian. She graduated from the Saskatchewan School for the Deaf and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Gallaudet University in addition to a Master of Education degree in Deaf Education from Western Maryland College.
Angela worked as a teacher at the North Dakota School for the Deaf and at the Manitoba School for the Deaf in Winnipeg She also has worked in various positions, including coordinator, curriculum developer, instructor of American Sign Language and Deaf Culture, and program chair of both the ASL/English Interpreter Training Program and Sign Language Studies Program at Grant MacEwan College. As part of the programs, three videos on Advanced American Sign Language were produced in 2004.
As a founding member of the Canadian Cultural Society of the Deaf, Angela has continued to be an active member. She was a consultant for the "American Sign Language in Canada Dictionary" and "Aslphabet," which is The American Sign Language Dictionary for Kids. Additionally, in 2002, she co-authored a book called "Deaf Women of Canada."
Angela has released multiple videos throughout the years, including "Pursuit of ASL: Interesting Facts Using Classifiers" in 1998, and "Pursuit of ASL: Interesting Facts Using Numbers" in 2011, both produced by Dr. Marty Taylor of Interpreting Consolidated. Additionally, in December 1999, she released "You Think Deaf People Have Problems?" which features her one-woman comedy show.
Angela was one of 50 Deaf Canadians who received the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002, out of a total of 46,000 recipients. She is currently the owner of her own company, Deaf Utopia www.deafutopia.com, and has authored the book "101 Activities for Teaching ASL," published in 2015, and is set to release her latest book, "Fun ASL Activities," in December 2023.
