“Developing 2SLGBTQIA+ resources in a Sign Language Curriculum”
Bio:
Gietz was born in Saskatchewan and graduated from Alberta School for the Deaf in Edmonton. The Deaf community from Edmonton calls her, "Mindy". Dr. Gietz has taught American Sign Language (ASL) and interpreting courses for more than 24 years in her teaching career. Her presentations provided a variety of the topics (e.g. Depiction in ASL, ASL Literature in interpreting, & ASL Alphabet). She currently works as an associate professor at University of Houston at American Sign Language Interpreting program in Houston, Texas. She is honored to play a role as the Sign Language Institute of Canada (SLIC) 2SLBGTQIA+ trainer to support the SLIC organization and the expansion of employment for the Deaf Canadians with their future teaching career in Canada. Her time and expertise contribute back to our Deaf communities in Canada.

Gietz est née en Saskatchewan et est diplômée de l'Alberta School for the Deaf à Edmonton. La communauté sourde d'Edmonton s'appelle « Mindy ». La Dre Gietz a enseigné la langue des signes américaine (ASL) et des cours d'interprétation pendant plus de 24 ans au cours de sa carrière d'enseignante. Ses présentations ont abordé une variété de sujets, par exemple : représentation en ASL, littérature ASL en interprétation et alphabet ASL. Elle travaille actuellement comme professeure agrégée à l'Université de Houston dans le cadre du programme d'interprétation en langue des signes américaine à Houston, au Texas. Elle a l'honneur de jouer un rôle de formatrice LBGTQIA2S+ à l'Institut en langues des signes du Canada (ILSC) pour soutenir l'organisation de l’ILSC et l'expansion de l'emploi des Canadiens sourds dans leur future carrière d'enseignant au Canada. Son temps et mon expertise contribuent à nos communautés sourdes au Canada.
